​Court Messenger

Messengers are responsible for transporting court employees as well as jurors, making deliveries, picking up orders, providing assistance to court employees as needed and assist with court room relocations and other duties as assigned.  This position has physical demands and works under the supervision of the Judicial Administrator.

Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Pick up lunches orders and deliver them to the sections of courts.​
  • Transport jurors safely to their destinations.
  • Transport Judges and court employees safely to various destinations for court business.
  • Monitor court parking.
  • Fuel and provide basic maintenance for court vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Valid Driver's License; CDL preferred.  Must be able to obtain CDL License within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to lift 35lbs.
  • Ability to reach, bend or stoop.
  • Ability to speak and hear, vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

This is a full-time position.  The annual salary is $28,600 plus benefits (401K, dental, life, medical, vision).

Field Agent
This position provides security for the Court Intervention Services (CIS) Office.  Work is performed under the Field Agent Supervisor.

Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Provide security for altercations that may arise in the office. 
  • Transport subjects from Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) holding to the CIS Office.
  • Handle any business requested by the Judges or Judicial Administrator.
  • Deliver “order in” notices to clients.
  • Run and print rap sheets as requested.
  • Pick up transports from other jurisdictions.
  • Transport and pick up Court Intervention Services clients from inpatient facilities.
  • Provide work - related transportation for CIS staff members and Judges as needed.
  • Adhere to “NO SMOKING” rule for court vehicles. Maintain cleanliness of court vehicles.
  • Court issued cell phones must be answered 24 hours a day.
  • All Field Agents are required to maintain complete and absolute confidentiality in all clients matters and all office oral and written communications.
  • All Field Agents are subject to the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Employee Handbook, Policy and Procedure Manual and Safety Manual.
  • All Field Agents are required to attend trainings, workshops and seminars relating to their positions with the Criminal District Court and/or Court Intervention Services as appropriate.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.        

Qualifications and Skills:
  • High school diploma required; 2 years of college preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience with a law enforcement agency preferred.
  • P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certification preferred.
  • Maintain P.O.S.T certification annually by qualifying on a firearms training range so that Field Operations Officer can legally carry a weapon.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Current identification as a dually commissioned law enforcement officer which is valid for the life of the Field Agent.

This is a full-time position.  The annual salary is $32,000 plus benefits (401K, dental, life, medical, vision).

Jury Clerk
This position performs clerical and customer service work while coordinating and preparing jurors for jury selection. This position is responsible for filing, data entry of paperwork, answering questions, and maintaining Jury Room, if applicable. Work is performed under moderate supervision.
 
Functions and Responsibilities: 
  • Verify juror information in JMS
  • Sort empanelment paperwork by group for entry into JMS
  • Escort jurors to the courtroom
  • Create attendance verification form for jurors
  • Assist jurors in the jury lounge
  • Empanel jurors selected by the court for jury trial
  • Keeps jurors updated throughout the day; dismisses jurors when all judges are satisfied and no additional jurors are needed. 
  • Enter License information in parking kiosk for jurors
  • Answers phone to respond to juror questions and assists them in completing juror qualification forms/failure to appear letters
  • Print out confirmation sheets and prepare group assignment, service dates and parking pass for mail out
 
 
Qualifications and Skills:  
  • High school diploma (or GED equivalent).
  • One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, parole and probation, legal or financial services.
  • Customer service and handling problems tactfully and patiently.
  • Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Typing on a personal computer
  • Ability to learn and apply job-related terminology, procedures, policies, rules, and regulations in order to define problems, collect and record data, appropriately complete forms, determine and document juror qualification status, and prepare and issue appropriate notifications.
  • Communicate clearly, tactfully, and effectively with jurors, judges, the public, police agencies, and other court officials and personnel, both verbally and in writing.
  • Use standard office and business equipment including, but not limited to, personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, copier, microfilm machine, register, scanner, fax machine, etc.
  • Multitask, adjust to situations quickly, set priorities, and handle pressure in a fast- paced environment.

​Drug Court Lead Case Manager
  • Supervision of all Drug Court Case Managers.
  • Reports directly to Court Services Administrator. 
 
 Job Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Criminal Justice or a related field required from an accredited program. 
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical SocialWorker (LCSW), or Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) preferred.
  •  A minimum of 3 years’ experience required of work in field or related field. 

Duties
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings.
  • Educate Case Managers on new Drug Court requirements and Court Policies.
  • Report statistical findings to Court Services Administrator.
  • Prepare monthly Programmatic Report for Supreme Court.
  • Prepare documents to be used for case management.
  • Monitor program participant intake and eligibility process.
  • Monitor and update staff on implementation of Supreme Court Drug Court Standards and Best Practices.
  • Monitor staff operations using Evidence Based Best Practices.
  • Program evaluation and data collection.
  • Provide appropriate new employee orientation and ongoing training for existing employees.
  • Supervise interns if applicable.
  • Prepare and manage graduation ceremonies.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

This is a full time position. The annual salary for this position is $60,000-$65,000, with benefits (401K, dental, life, medical, vision) .

Domestic Violence Monitoring Court Intake Screener

Roles, Responsibilities, & Duties
  •  This position is responsible for completing intake assessments with individuals Court mandated to participate in the Domestic Violence Monitoring Court Program.
  •  Duties include conducting intake screenings and assessments in regards to risks and needs, lethality, trauma, mental health and referring participants to community based programs which could include assistance with housing, employment, vocational training, substance abuse, mental health treatment, parenting, anger management and batterer's intervention.
  •  Maintains updated electronic files for each participant, including, but not limited to case and attendance notes using the AIMS Case Management System and pertinent statistical data required by the project.
  •  This position is funded by a Bureau of Justice Assistance grant and reports to the Court Services Administrator.

Qualifications &  Skills
  •  Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work or a related field required from an accredited university.
  •  A minimum of 2 years’ experience required of work in field or related field.
  •  Extensive experience in working with criminal justice system involved individuals is required.
  •  Able to demonstrate understanding of the criminal justice system, domestic violence and trauma.
  •  Proficient written, verbal, organizational, and communication skills.
  •  The Intake Screener is subject to the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Employee Handbook, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Manual.

Trauma Therapist-Contract (2 positions available)
Trauma Therapist 
Bureau of Justice Assistance FY21 Adult Drug Court Enhancement
Project Period 10/1/2021 – 9/30/2025

Roles, Responsibilities, & Duties
  • Provides individual trauma therapy sessions for co-occurring substance dependent court-mandated participants enrolled in the Orleans Parish Drug Court Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program.· Meets individually with participants to process recent arrests, family problems and healthy relationships.
  • Maintains updated electronic files for each client, including case and attendance notes using the AIMS Case Management System.
  • This position is funded by a 48-month Bureau of Justice Assistance grant and reports to the Court Services Administrator.

Qualifications & Skills
  • Applicant must be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Master’s degree in Counseling or Clinical Social Work from an accredited program.
  • Skilled in individual and group therapy modalities.
  • Extensive experience in trauma therapy and individual counseling required.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of substance use disorders and mental health disorders.
  • Proficient written, verbal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

This is a contracted position in which applicants are paid an hourly rate for each hour of clinical services provided. No benefits are included. ​​Hourly rate: $90.00 per clinical hour.

Domestic Violence Monitoring Court Case Manager
12 Month Grant Funded Position – JAG FY 21

Manage all aspects of a domestic violence pretrial participant ’s progress through the DVMC Program. 
This position reports to the DVMC Case Manager Supervisor. 

Job Requirements
                                                                 
  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Criminal Justice or a related field required from an accredited university. 
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience required of work in field or related field.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • An applicant for this position would need a number of personal qualities in order to be successful in this position such as a positive attitude, team approach, conscientious, compassionate, understanding, dedicated and motivated would be a number of the personal qualities possessed by the applicant for this position.
Duties

  • Complete 100 initial interviews of offenders who are Court ordered as a condition of bond to participate in the DVMC Program.   
  • Ensure offenders are aware of conditions of bond, maintain ongoing compliance with any Court mandated conditions, and ensure that offenders are linked with appropriate resources, and monitor a caseload of 50 pretrial offenders.       
  • Refer participants to appropriate treatment programs, counseling agencies, institutions, community partners, education programs, employment and housing assistance as needed.
  • Meet weekly with all active participants to monitor their progress in the program and promptly record journal notes for each participant.
  • Monitor compliance of court issued Protective Orders.
  • Adhere to the guidelines of the Blueprint for Safety.
  • Appear in Court for status hearings as required by the presiding Judge.
  • Monitor participant drug tests and take immediate necessary action for positive drug test results.
  • Update and keep current all demographic, criminal history, case information, office visits, status hearing narratives, employment, contact information and all activity concerning the participant in the Automon Integrated Management Systems (AIMS) system database.         
  • Complete work in a timely fashion, whether daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly and complete all such reports in a timely fashion by the scheduled deadlines.
  • Keep all participant files organized, updated and maintained for program review and audit purposes. 
  • All Case Managers are required to maintain complete and absolute confidentiality
  •  in all participant matters and with respect to all office oral and written communications.  
  • All Case Managers are subject to the Orleans Parish Criminal District Court Employee Handbook, Policy and Procedures and Safety Manual.
