Mission of the Court
Pursuant to the duties of the Criminal District Court of Orleans Parish as described in the Louisiana Constitution, Article V., Sections 16 and 32, and the Louisiana Revised Statute Title 13, specifically 13:1336, it is the mission of Criminal District Court to exercise exclusive jurisdiction over all criminal offenses committed within the Parish of Orleans, if the jurisdiction is not vested by law in some other court.
Vision of the Court
The vision of Criminal District Court is as follows:
- to preside over criminal matters within its jurisdiction, upholding and interpreting the law and applying the applicable procedural and substantive rules of court in a fair and impartial manner;
- to ensure fair and equitable disposition or resolution of criminal matters, including trials;
- to provide sufficient and essential resources, inclusive of funding, facilities, and judicial officers and staff, along with programming and services for those who appear before the bar and/or are court-involved;
- ensuring effective communication and collaboration, internally and externally;
- to demonstrate integrity, fairness, and effectiveness as well as to guarantee accessibility to the public in connection with the administration of justice;
- to maintain courtroom decorum and professionalism amongst all parties, ensuring all persons are treated with dignity and respect; and
- to garner the public’s trust, respect and support in the performance of its fiduciary duties.

Court entry rulesMasks are encouraged . No cellular phones, weapons, photographic or audio-visual devices or equipment of any type, including cameras, video, audio recorders or players, food or other items will be allowed in the building. The Sheriff's Office will confiscate and discard these items and entry will be denied.
